Option Studio: Housing in Los Angeles, Harvard University
Instructor: Daniel D'Oca
Premise: All of LA’s residential land has
been maxed out. Players, playing as developers, must look to capitalize on never used before sites. Each site must be unlocked with the help of
resources that implicate real life trends, policies and technologies, won with a roll of die. Once unlocked,
these sites can house specific housing typologies collected as the player moves around the city.
The more you build, more the points you get: all the while striving to reach a hundred. Beware the
NIMBY’s, the environmental groups, homeowner’s associations, or national and state housing laws that
are being enacted as we play. One stroke of the pen, and down the ladder you go!
